www.MyPowerAnimals.orgPower Animal Healing with Lord Sananda and Alexandriah StahrMy Power Animals Glossary of TermsPower Animals are spirit guides in animal form who provide protection, guidance, and healing. Power Animal is an energy pattern that appears in animal form and exists in the spiritual realms, more specifically, the spiritual animal kingdom. This energy pattern appears in animal form and expresses the characteristics or abilities that the animal form represents. We all have Power Animals and they are connected to us as protectors, guides, healers and teachers. Power Animals most often come to us in dreams, meditations, initiations and visions. They are protector spirits that help us in our daily life and in our spiritual search for balance and harmony. They can be our closest ally in life and in spiritual practices. Power animals are an essential part of Shamanic Practice. They are the helping spirit which adds to the power of the shaman and are essential for success in any venture undertaken by the shaman. According to shamanic understanding, we each have a number of power animals, for they are patterns of natural abilities and potentials that are inherent within us. A principal power animal is one that has prominence. Power Animal is an animal spirit that stays with us from the cradle to the grave. Our power animal will compensate for our weaknesses and our shortcomings. These Power Animals also share their wisdom and their abilities with us, often giving us the knowledge to answer questions on subjects we know nothing about and also giving us the courage to complete our tasks when we want to give up. They also serve as an indicator of our possible growth and full potential. They are able to provide us with everything we need to attain and reach our full potential, helping us to learn and grow. Power Animals and Similar TermsThe following terms can and are used interchangeably by myself and others working with Animal Spirit Guides and Shamanic Healing Practices. It is by no means a comprehensive listing, but attempts to define most generally used terms. Additional terms are defined individually and grouped together according to type and/or purpose.
Animal Guide: Most Native American tribes believe that our ancestors watch over us and guide us. Our grandparents and great-grandparents act as spirit guides, lending wisdom, support and spiritual protection when we need it – or when we remember to ask. In addition to the ancestors and other spirit guides, everyone is born with a connection to one or more (usually many more) animal guides. Animal Guides: are spirit guides that are animals. They may be animals we have known in life (such as a deceased pet) or they may be personal symbols that represent the qualities of an animal. The characteristics of our animal guides are qualities that we possess or that we need to learn from in our lives. Animal Spirit Energies: Ancient Native Americans believed that animals had lessons to teach and healing or inspirational power. Today, in a search for a closer walk with the earth, many are relearning the old ways of these ancient people, using the animal energy as the Native Americans did. Types of Power Animals and Animal GuidesPersonal Power (Life) Animal Guide: is also called a Spirit Guide as it comes to you when you are born and remains with you throughout your life whether you acknowledge or call upon him or not. Personal Power Animals reflect your innermost spiritual self or your true self and is a constant reminder of your inherent gifts and abilities. Journey Animal Guide: appears at a fork in the road of your life. When a decision needs to be made to follow a certain path in life, the Journey Guide is there to serve as a guide along the way. It represents a path that may take months or years to complete. It can be a friendly traveling companion if the path is right. If you become lost along the way, the Journey Guide is there to help lead the way back. A Journey Guide is there until the journey is complete. The Journey Guide is there to help you through the changes you encounter on your new path. Animal Helpers: are the type of animal spirit that comes and goes as the need arises, they share their wisdom with us and show us what we need know to remedy any situation in our lives at any time. They will stay with us until the situation is resolved then they will leave to help someone else. The sooner these animals go the better as it means the problem has been resolved and we can move on. It is important that we be aware of these helpers and that we listen and pay attention so that we can use their wisdom when it is needed. Animal Messengers: This animal is exactly what it says. These animal spirits are the dispatch riders of the spirit realms and they deliver messages from the spirit world. They often appear in our dreams, but can appear in meditations or along our chosen pathway as we journey. Their visits are always brief; they depart as quickly as they arrive. We may only ever get to see this particular animal spirit once so it is important that we listen, carefully, to what they have to say or look ,carefully, at what they have to show us, we may not get another chance to fully understand what was given, if we miss something. Messenger Guide: quickly comes into your life and leaves once a message is understood. The length of time that the Messenger Guide stays in your awareness is relative to you seeing and accepting the message. The message may be a warning or maybe a wake-up call for some important action that you must take. The Messenger Guide is neither positive nor negative. There is no permanent tie or relationship to the Messenger Guide, they are simply messengers. Medicine Animals: This type of animal is similar to the helpers, except this animal comes loaded with medicine and aids in healing. These animals only come when you call them and will stay until you tell them to go. These medicine animals also have a great wisdom to share with you and they will guide you in your healing work. In addition to all this, they provide extra protection, should you need it, for your healing work. Please remember when you use these Medicine Animals to honor them with your thanks when you send them away. Shadow Animal Guide (by Alexandriah Stahr): is traditionally described as a Power Animal that is either one that you are afraid of or that is there to teach you about something negative in your life. I have another perspective on this. Whenever I come across an Animal Spirit that appears aggressive or wounded in some way, I treat it like any other energy of an apparent negative nature. I heal it first and ask questions afterwards. There is no reason for you to accept an animal spirit at face value just because it shows up. What I have found is that this animal may represent a past life where the person was killed by this animal or that the animal may represent a wounded aspect of the self that needs to be healed and can be healed when the animal first shows up. I teach this technique to both heal and discern Power Animals when they first come forward and reveal themselves. Either way, I would suggest that animal spirits pass the test of discernment the same as any other type of Spirit Guide. White Power Animal Guide (by Alexandriah Stahr): is a very special and powerful Power Animal to have. Although all Power Animals are in the spiritual realms, there are many levels of spiritual reality. White Power Animals represent the Christ Vibration. White Power Animals represent the highest of spiritual teachings and the highest frequencies of the Ascension Path. White Power Animals represent animal companions and guides to White Shamans or those that work on the side of the Christ Light during this time of the Planetary Ascension. They are the friend and Power Animals of the White Shaman or White Magician who works on issues of the soul rather than physical or mundane concerns. White Power Animals, as the White Shamans they serve, represent the healers of the healers and the teachers of the teachers of their species. White Power Animals represent the ascended version of the animal it represents and the ascended energy patterns of the 13.13.13 Solar New Earth Reality Animal Kingdom Imposter Power Animals (by Alexandriah Stahr): are simply negative energies masquerading as a Power Animal and should be subject to spiritual discernment as any other Spirit Guide that presents itself to you. If the energy of the animal does not seem right to you for any reason, offer it a healing first, if it does not accept it or it has no effect than banish it from your sight in the Name of the Christ Light. Totems, Animal Totems and Totem AnimalsTotem: Traditionally a totem is a spiritual entity that watches over and/or assists a group of people, such as a family, clan, or tribe. Totems support larger groups rather than individuals. In modern times, some single individuals, not otherwise involved in the practice of a tribal religion, have chosen to adopt a personal spirit guide or animal helper, which has special meaning to them, and may refer to this as a totem.. Totem: Webster's Dictionary defines a totem as: "A natural object, usually an animal that serves as a distinctive, often venerated emblem or symbol – usually a means of personal or spiritual identity." Animal Totems: are animal spirits and energies that protect, guide, heal and teach. Animal Totems play huge roles in our lives. They aid in self-discovery and capture our imagination, giving us incredible avenues of self-expression and awareness. Additionally, they assist in understanding our past, and if we are attentive, our animal totems can reveal glimpses of our future. Native American Animal Totems: most commonly come to mind when discussing this topic. However, animal signs are found throughout all cultures spanning the globe. Since time immemorial, animals have served as harbingers of personality traits we, as humans, all aspire to achieve. This makes animals some of the most powerful symbols in our spiritual toolbox. Animals afford us visions of how our lives could be if we lived more simply and lived with purity of thought and emotion. Therefore, incorporating animal totems into our lives affirms our spiritual goals. By focusing on the attributes of our totems, we internalize these traits and thus begin to externalize the very character we absorb from our totems. Types of Totems and Totem AnimalsThe number of Totems and Totem Animals active is variable depending on the individual and circumstances. In general though, everyone will have a Primary Totem. Some people might also call this a Clan, Power Animal, or Animal Guide. Names do change with different systems, but this is the main Totem Animal active from birth till death. In addition to this main totem, the average person will have another half a dozen or so throughout their life. These situational totems come in to teach or protect during a time of challenge or change. A shaman may work with many more totems than this, and it is not uncommon for someone on the Shamanic Path to work with 20 or 30 Totems and Totem Animals. Birth Totem: This is one of the two types of animal spirits that remain with us from the cradle to the grave, our Birth Totem and our Primary Totem. Our Birth Totems tell us what a person is really like; this can be seen as we share the same traits with our Birth Totem. Our psychic awareness is also closely linked with our Birth Totem. Solar Birth Totem: Birth totems are a collection of aspects that are in place at the time of your birth. These aspects are related to animals, the weather, stones, plants, minerals and so on. Each aspect will have an impact or influence on you and your life. They can denote your strengths, or help you see your weaknesses. Just as there are varying forms of astrology, there are varying forms of Birth Totems or what some call Solar Totems. Birth Totems are similar to the common astrological modalities. Like astrology, your Birth Totem can tell you many things about your personality, your attitudes, your abilities and your shortcomings. These totems are often referred to as Solar Totems because they encompass many aspects of the "solar" system, from the seasonal relationships to the moon phases. How you relate to the world can be impacted by what season you were born in, what moon was present in that month of your birth, and even the winds that flow through the land. A Birth Totem is not the same thing as a Spiritual Totem or having a particular animal as a spirit guide. Those relationships are purely spiritual in nature. The animal acts as a teacher along your path specifically for spiritual understanding and growth. As a Birth Totem, these aspects of the "birthing sign" are symbolism set along the road to help us understand a certain situation in our life. These aspects tell us about who we are, why we probably look at things in a certain way and react to situations or people using particular responses. We are more in tune with the characteristics of these aspects, almost as if we mirror the traits and qualities contained in the birthing aspect. We can therefore use their strengths to help us overcome our weaknesses and/or study them and learn about who we are. Primary Totem: The Primary Totem is just as the title implies, our most important Totem besides our Birth Totem who is also active throughout life. This totem tends to sum up the general traits of the person as well. It will give an overview on their personality, strengths, challenges, and the way they deal with success and adversity Protector Totems: The main totem might also form part of the individual’s defense, or there might be specific totems that come to their aid in times of danger. In general, predator totems such as cougar, tiger, wolf, bear, badger, and wolverine would be aggressive protectors to call upon. Relationship Totems: A relationship with a spouse or family might have its own totem. This Totem might be a protector, or it might be there to teach about patterns, Wolf and goose are both Relationship Totems Transformation Totem: During difficult times of change, Totems can be an important guide. This might be through a death, divorce, change in life path, or shamanic death rebirth cycle. Common transformational totems would be bats, owls, snakes and butterflies. Healer, Teacher and Leadership Totems: If an individual is involved in healing work they will actually attract specific totems to assist them. Most common to this type of work are bears, although many other totems do this work. Bears symbolize healing, divinity, invulnerability, spirit helper, protection, introspection, truth, female receptive energy, prophesy, stamina, harmony, patience, defense, revenge, transformation, intuition, answers from the Dream world, benevolence, strength and bravery. Teaching is another level that totems work on. This might be a personal teaching that the individual needs to learn, or it might be that teaching work is a life path. Wolf is an example of a teacher totem Leadership brings it own challenges, and a totem might be attracted to assist. Learning the appropriate use of power is a difficult skill, so a totem such as cougar or mountain lion might be brought in to teach these lessons. This would double as a protector when the position of leadership creates a target out of the individual. ShamanismShamanism: is a set of tools and techniques used to interact with the spirit world and the world around us. Shamanism is a solitary spiritual path and a personal quest for knowledge and inner power. Shamanism is a spiritual way of life, not a religion. It has no specific pantheon of gods and is attached to no particular culture. It is a way of looking at the world and at yourself. There are no hard set rules, no hierarchy to try and work through. It's a practice that includes all forms of spiritual healing. As you walk the path of the Shaman, you will re-member many skills, talents, places and people from your past that you have forgotten and is now time to remember. Shamanism is an ongoing expanding body of energy medicine that is rooted in tradition. The shaman applies the energy medicine protocols for the healing of the people he or she serves. Shamanism is the oldest known form of spiritual practice. It is a time-tested practice, what works is kept, what doesn’t is left behind. Shaman: is a medicine man or woman with the ability to heal, work with energies, communicate with and travel to and through the spiritual realms for the purpose of healing self and the people or group he or she serves. The essential characteristics of a shaman are mastery of energy and the use of spirit and animal guides within their healing and spiritual transformation work.
